The beginning of this last decade saw a move back to the small refractor. As Tele Vue continued adding to their line, with the Pronto and Ranger. And others like Astro Physics, Takahashi, D & G, Vixen and Zeiss also revealed new models. While at the other end of the spectrum the Dobsonian mount and an aluminum truss designed "tube" paved the way for large reflectors to be made commercially.

Meade and Celestron continued to perfect the SCT. And some unusual designs in reflectors hit the market; a Dall-Kirkham from Takahashi, a Maksutov-Newtonian from Infinity Instruments, and a Newtonian Reflector on a triple-axis mount from Optical Research and a ball mount from Mag1 Instruments.
