The late 80's brought sophisticated electronic control systems to the SCT's with Meade leading the way. PEC became the "buzz-word" as telescope drives took positive steps toward accuracy, making long exposure astrophotography a bit easier. Meade also went after the high-end eyepiece market with "super" and "ultra" wide versions, but Tele Vue raised the ante with the 20mm Nagler II. Also Tele Vue made a big splash in telescope design with the 3" f7.4 "Oracle", the 4" f5.5 "Renaissance" and then the 4" f/5 "Genesis" apochromatic refractor telescopes. And a new rising star appeared in the east - Takahashi with quality that would not go unrecognized for long.
